Affordable Family Vacations
Yup, summer is here, and the kids are longing to have fun and make the most out of their summer vacation before heading back to school. While a trip to Disney, a cruise, or a cross-country roadtrip are all fun and exciting, they can be quite expensive. Here, at KCPA, we are very family oriented and we know how those vacations empty out the piggy bank rather quickly. So, we decided to take a little time and do a little local investigating to see if we can discover something affordable, that we can do with the whole family, and that still feels like a true mini-vacay. What we found is that South Florida is filled with fun things to do, whether you’re in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, or Monroe county.
Like, for example:
You can enjoy a weekend (or a day) at the beach, or in a pool, at any of our fancy hotels that people all over the world plan all year long to come to… they’re our backyard! These hotels might have resident discounts, and/or affordable daytime rates. The list is endless in Miami Beach, Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach… so have fun picking one out!
We also thought it would be extra fun to venture out exploring the museums and historic places you haven’t had the chance to see, or that you yourself may have visited before, but your kids haven’t done so yet. Maybe it’s Vizcaya Museum & Gardens or maybe it’s the Deering Estate, make a list of your favorites and visit a different one every day for one whole week.
- Museums with free admission every day: The Institute of Contemporary Art in the Design District.
- Museums that are sometimes free: The Perez Art Museum Miami, free on the second Saturday of the month, and the Wolfsonian, free on Friday nights from 6-9pm.
How about spending a few days in the Florida Keys? There’s 800 of them! Although only 43 of them are accessible, the Keys have so much to offer. There’s history, there’s fishing, there’s snorkeling, and there’s fun, fun, fun under the Florida sun!
And let’s not forget about the Everglades, an amazing place to visit; there’s no other place like it in the whole world! Something about riding on an airboat and taking in the expansive view of the horizon over the Sawgrass, will make you feel like one with nature and proud to be a South Floridian.
The trick here is to do the things that you don’t normally do. Be creative and start planning your affordable local get-away so you can create memories that you and your family will always cherish. So, put on your tourist hat, think like a tourist, and you will find the many wonders that your own hometown has to offer without breaking the piggy bank!
